Maria and Antonio Estrada, Gloria Bustamante (Antonio's mother), and their sons Marcos (8) and Emiliano (5) will be moving into the home to be built at 28 S Newland Street in Lakewood.
Work: Maria works at Wyatt Edison as a paraprofessional and Gloria works at AFL Maintenance group.
The Estrada Bustamante family lives in the basement of their landlord's home. When you walk into the home there are stairs leading upstairs to the landlord, and downstairs to this family, but no door to separate the two families. In addition to not having doors, the walls in the basement are not full walls, but half walls, offering no privacy for anyone in the family. The 5 bedrooms (without walls) that the family does have are not enough for this family of five, and there is very little living space besides that--no room for even a stove, the family has to cook everything on a hot plate. The family has put off moving somewhere else because they know that home ownership is the next step for them, and they are very excited that Habitat will be that next step for them!
